Gas appliances | EU Regulation 2016/426

Regulation (EU) 2016/426 Gas Appliance Regulation (GAR) contains all the requirements that gas appliances and fittings must meet before being placed on the market; it is applicable to the following appliances which burn gaseous fuels and have a normal water temperature, if used, not exceeding 105°, and related fittings:

  • Cooking appliances
  • Refrigeration appliances
  • Air-conditioning appliances
  • Space heating appliances
  • Appliances for hot water production
  • Appliances for combined hot water production and space heating
  • Gas lighting
  • Washing appliances
  • Dryers
  • Irons
  • Forced draught burners
  • Heating bodies to be equipped with forced draught burners
  • Fittings
    • Safety devices
    • Controlling devices
    • Regulating devices
  • Sub-assemblies composed of safety, controlling and/or regulating devices.

Specifically, appliances and fittings falling within the scope of Regulation (EU) 2016/426 can be placed on the European market only after:

  • compliance with the essential requirements set out in the Regulation have been assessed and certified by a Notified Body (EU type-examination certificate - mod. B - or Certificate of conformity - mod. G
  • production control has been supervised and conformity to type have been assessed by a Notified Body (Certificate of conformity to type - mod. C2 or D or E or F); this certificate allows to affix the CE marking followed by the identification number of the Notified Body and to place the products on the European market.

It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to demonstrate the meeting of essential requirements stated within the Regulation by contacting a Notified Body, both for the type-examination and for the production control according to the modules indicated and chosen.
