NEW RULES FOR UKCA MARKING

The UKCA marking officially came into effect on January 1, 2021. After that deadline, products that do not carry the UKCA marking can no longer be placed on the market in the UK.

However, to enable companies to adapt to the new requirements, the UK government has extended the transitional period, i.e., the coexistence of CE marking and UKCA marking, until the end of 2022.

As a further extension of the transitional period, the UK government has announced that a product that is EC-certified before the end of 2022 will still have to bear the UKCA mark, but may be submitted for assessment by a UKCA Approved Body by the end of the EC conformity certification obtained or, in any case, no later than December 31, 2027.

Manufacturers will be able to self-declare compliance with UK legislation based on the CE marking they hold, and which is valid, and will not be required to retest the product with obvious cost savings for companies.

The government will regulate this in detail to allow manufacturers to be able to declare compliance with the UKCA mark based on assessment activities undertaken by a non-UK body, however recognized and accredited in their home nation.
